Fascia is a type of connective tissue that is found everywhere in the body, from blood to bones. Myofascia is categorised as deep fascia and covers every muscle fibre, spindle and muscle group. The Myofascia has a direct impact on how the entire body functions. Surprisingly, there is no start or end point to the fascia matrix. It is all connected, from head to toe.
Myofascia Release (MFR) is a specialised form of bodywork that focuses on creating space within the body by altering the condition of the deep connective tissue. Unlike traditional deep tissue massage, MFR does not involve the use of massage balms or oils. This modality recognises the importance of lubricating the interfaces between muscles, as they lie on top of one another, through gentle and consistent heat and pressure.
If the myofascia becomes dehydrated, damaged, or scarred, it can negatively impact the performance of the muscles, preventing them from reaching their full potential. Common manifestations of myofascial dysfunction include the presence of knots, adhesions, and the formation of scars. The aim of MFR is to restore proper function and mobility throughout the body.
